This community center was designed to support the social and cultural needs of a community anchored by a substantial low income housing development for the same sponsor - an engaged local Episcopal church.
Classrooms and a Headstart day care center operation anchor both ends of a gentle arcing series of smaller instructional, activity and administrative spaces. To remain in scale with the neighborhood of two-story townhomes and suburban tract homes, the large multi-purpose room/ gymnasium is located at the rear of the site.
Residential materials - brick, glass and asphalt shingles are employed to achieve a ‘fit’ with the neighborhood.
