This complex $21 million renovation project evolved from a Strategic Real Estate Plan when the bank had completed its initial wave of acquisitions of regional community-based banks. Operations were consolidated onto four tower floors once the holding company had been relocated to the renovated annex. Customer service and retail functions were located on the Main Floor.
The kidney-shaped banking hall was reshaped to reflect a familiar volume and nest bank service and product specialist in platform areas adjacent to a large customer service desk. The branch bank was pulled to the south alcove and a formal public promenade developed so that staff and patrons could access the adjacent plaza, annex and hotel during non-branch hours.
Traditional materials were employed to compliment restored and salvaged marble, aluminum/ stainless, brass, textured glass and plaster for the original building areas to convey the Bank’s commitment to its community. An existing elevator to the cash vault was retained and integrated into a rotunda set piece that recalls the original building lobby dome and cylindrical form. A new stainless steel and glass entry canopy allows arrivers to see the refurbished eagle and clock, that has been the bank’s symbol for nine decades.
