This Fortune 500 manufacturer and distributor of polymer products challenged us to create a new world class headquarters that would meet its functional demands as a world-wide high-technology polymer producer, but also reflect a change in culture, and create a new image. The company felt that it was viewed as a traditional harvester of archaic materials (iron ore), which had evolved to a non-core business activity as the business became more involved in the production of plastics and polymers.

The design reflects only three space standards, and utilizes custom furniture throughout to afford all “associates” the same quality standards. Synthetic crystallized glass, select clear crossfire quartered English Sycamore are employed with fabric and stainless steel to reflect the company’s past, present and future. Translucent glass at perimeter offices brings diffused daylight to the interior throughout. Curving custom indirect light fixtures greet arrivers in elevator, reception and Board Room areas in a soft, dramatic way to extend the scale of the chambers.

To optimize interaction and collaboration, offices feature large cockpit-like work surface and filing areas, with round conferencing tables for spontaneous interactions.
“We hired Bill Eberhard and his firm to design our new corporate headquarters because out of all the firms we interviewed, we could tell that they were the only firm that really understood that this was about a lot more than design - it's about interaction, communication, productivity and our culture. We view Bill and his firm as head and shoulders above their competition."
