S. Rose Co. is a commercial furniture dealer whose five-story facility was worn and did not present its manufacturers’ products effectively, nor did it house its operation efficiently. Our design called for living showrooms where the S. Rose operating units were extension of product showrooms, with different products used within a cohesive whole. Space planning was critical with two different customer scenarios scripted, depending upon how much time the prospect was prepared to invest.
Products are highlighted in a soft and open design that most often involves taking the new elevator to the top floor and descending via the two stairs. The exterior renovation included extensive masonry repairs, new insulated windows and a new super-insulated roof.
Demolition revealed structural failures of columns at the rear of the building, which necessitated structural replacement and a new HVAC system design response where original chimney flues were captured for make-up and exhaust air for high-efficiency gas-fired units. S. Rose trusted us to plan and specify every piece of furniture, light fixture and every finish material to create a responsive working showroom, which has resulted in a meaningful increase in sales. The project includes the first modular lighting application in the region.
